This scene from the Matrix nicely summarizes the key to daygame, which means of course the key to life in general (depending on whether you want a life of freedom or not).
Morpheus turns to Neo and with a knowing look says:
“You have to let it all go, Neo: fear, doubt, disbelief. Free your mind.” And with a mind as clear as crystal he proceeds to fling himself off the building and make the jump.
We get to Neo who begins to say to himself “free my mind… free my mind.” Of course, this is self-talk, the very opposite of a free mind.
This is the primary difference between me and my students. That’s not to say I have a free mind all the time – quite the opposite, but I can see my messy mind, stand back from it and – with a Morpheus look of knowing – say to a student: “you have to let it all go” and walk right into an interaction.
Free your mind… let it all go
